Flash Forward

Not to take a step out of tune, but I need to do a present-day rant for a brief moment...all part of the life of a Cop Wife.

The NYPD works this way: You get 5 days on, 3 off, then 5 days on, 2 off, etc. and the schedule rotates. At least, this is how it is for "rookies." This week my husband was supposed to have three off: Thursday, Friday, Saturday. YAY! This is a nice one, whenever it comes around...even if it's only once every 12 weeks or so...SO...when the NYPD informed my husband last night that he has mandatory overtime THIS SATURDAY NIGHT...well, needless to say, I was somewhat less than thrilled.

This is not the life I signed up for...not at this age, anyway. Remember how I said I didn't marry a cop? Right. I married a man that decided to become a cop...and at the ripe old age of thirty-late, I tend to think that Saturday nights should be reserved for civilized things like dinner parties and Parcheesi.

Not vertical patrols in the projects, texts sent out in between incidents, and a lonely wife sitting home on the couch with the dog, wondering when it gets better.

  1. Are you sure Parcheesi is civilized?!?! :)

  2. What are you talking about? There's nothing better than being a cop doing police work on a Saturday night. It doesn't get much better than that. ;-)
