5, 6, 7, 8...

This was the scene where a gun battle erupted in Brooklyn this weekend. FOUR NYPD Officers were shot at by yet another ex-con brandishing an illegal weapon.

This brings the total to eight...that's right, eight NYPD Officers have been shot since the beginning of this year in NYC.

And it's April.

And I can recount the entire story here, but let's face it; isn't the story always the same? An ex-con with a pregnant girlfriend. He gets angry, holds her and her other child hostage, releases them, shoots at cops.

I am tired of writing this story. I would much rather tell you about the cops.

The injured officers were Keenan, 52, shot in the front calf; Detective Kenneth Ayala, 40, shot once in the thigh and once in the left ankle; Officer Matthew Granahan, 35, shot in the calf, and Capt. Al Pizzano, 49, who was grazed in the face.

They are the happy ending; they are the heroes here.
