Jump Up

It's not all fun and games at the West Indian Day Parade.
The West Indian Day Parade is an annual event held in Brooklyn, and every year cops get pulled in for this event. This was the reason Roc had to work 7p-7a on Sunday night. The actual parade is on Monday, but the night before is a Pre-celebration called JUMP UP.
At the Jump Up this year there were four shootings, several stabbings, a slashing, as well as countless other crimes. Cops from all five boroughs were called in, and Roc said it was absolute bedlam.
This was the night before the so-called festivities.
I woke up this morning to find out that two police officers were wounded (one shot, the other grazed by a bullet) and three people were killed at the Parade this year. This has caused Michael Bloomberg--- the threepeat mayor---to pontificate that the problem is "too many guns on the streets of this city."
Really? I think the problem is that this event gets out of control every single year, and that the criminal element that seems to populate the parade route needs to be reigned in. Perhaps we need to cancel the event next year...because last I checked, nobody got shot last year at the St. Patrick's Day Parade, which is a bigger Parade for New York City.
And before you go sending me hate mail about the fact that you feel this comment is racist, consider this: I'm not saying anything about any of the other colorful parades our city hosts; I'm saying there's a problem with this parade.

  1. It's only racist if you consider "criminal" to be a race.
