A Cop's Kid: Part Four

Let's face it: he was an easy target. The NYC Police Commissioner's Son. A Former Marine; a war correspondent, as well as a popular television anchor. Today, that same news is reporting that the case has collapsed against Greg Kelly.

Kelly,(43), was accused by a 29-year old paralegal of rape after they had sex in her bosses' law office after a night out. However, the texts between the pair after the alleged rape happened convinced prosecutors that no rape occurred.

It's a tricky situation: public opinion was firmly in Kelly's corner, if for no other reason that the woman waited three months to report the alleged rape. I spoke to a friend of my husband's on Saturday---another cop---and he thought the allegations were ridiculous on their face. He cited his reasons, and swore that none of them had anything to do with the fact that Ray Kelly authorized his paycheck.

The only problem here is that when a woman is genuinely raped in New York, it makes it all that much harder for her to make a claim. Greg Kelly's reputation has been sullied, but people soon forget, and since he was found to be the victim here, the court of public opinion stands firmly in his corner. He will go on; time will pass, and that's the end of that.
