One of the Funny But Not things that happened in the midst of this trial is that I got into a pretty difficult confrontation with my mother about the way that I am reacting to this circumstance. She tried giving me some unsolicited advice, and I basically told her to please spare me. When she got herself upset about my reaction, I reminded her once again that I am not the daughter that she has in her fantasies. That I am ME, and that ME is sometimes messy, and that's my truth.
She had a hard time swallowing the fact that maybe---just maybe---she had something to do with the outcome.
I couldn't help but laugh.
