A New Routine

Once Roc made it through the first week okay, I let out half a breath. He went directly to the business on Friday afternoon, and called me once he got settled in.

"I've got a great idea. I think I'm going to get out of here in time enough for a late dinner. Do you want to go out to dinner with me? I can handle a nice glass of wine and a chance to wind down." Roc suggested.

"Aren't you exhausted?" I countered. He had been getting up every day at 4:30 AM, and I figured that by the time we headed out to dinner at eight, he might not make it through dessert.

"Yes, but soon I won't have weekends off, at least not regularly. Whattaya say?"

I agreed, and the Friday Night Dinner was born. Every Friday night while Roc was in the Academy, we would pick a local spot and go have dinner together, whether it was eight or nine o'clock at night, or even later.

It was a time for us to reconnect, for him to wind down and tell me all about the week, and of course, a chance for him to begin to nod off over cappuccino.
