HE'S OKAY

Okay!
As some of you know, Roc was admitted into the hospital Sat night/early Sunday morning. He was off-duty. He was admitted for extreme dehydration. Among other things, my husband does not take in enough fluids. Of course, I may have panicked just a little bit (after what happened with my Stepmom, I'm sure no one would blame me) but the fact of the matter is...he's fine.
I am taking a moment to use this "platform" to remind all of you this:
DRINK!
HYDRATE!
THEN DRINK SOME MORE...!!
As a Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor (not to mention his wife) Rocco is seemingly unable to hear this from me. So I will share with you the formula that we should all know and live by:
You need to drink 1/2 your body weight in ounces of water every day in order to maintain hydration.
I'm sure you've all heard about the whole 8/8oz glasses of water a day, and although that's an okay guide...here's the deal: everybody weighs a different amount. Plus, other things do factor in to the hydration equation.
If you drink coffee = add one water per caffeinated coffee.
If you drink tea = add a water for every tea with caffeine.
If you drink alcohol = add a water per wine, beer, or spirit.

For example: If you weigh 150 lbs:
You should be drinking 75 ounces of water per day minimum.
Most water bottles in America are about 16.9 ounces.
That means somewhere between 4 or 5 water bottles PER DAY.
Let's say you drink two coffees that same day: add two water bottles.

You get the drift.

My point is that even though it's cold in the Northeast, you still need to drink that water. I know it's easier in the Summer. Cops are especially bad at this: they work crazy hours, sometimes have a busy shift, and forget to drink. I get it. Then some other cop will be nice enough to hand them a cup of coffee. Which is great, but that puts you at a greater risk for dehydration.

SO...DRINK...HYDRATE...then drink S'more!
And enjoy the Holidays with a glass of wine in one hand and a water in the other!

  1. I don't drink nearly enough water!!! And then at night I'm so thirsty I try and make up for it and then have trouble sleeping because I have to keep getting up to pee! I should break it down to a glass every hour throughout the day.

    I'm glad Roc's okay!

  3. Thanks for the concern Fellow Bloggers. Of course, Roc went into work last night...UGH...but he says he feels fine, so who am I to say? I threw two water bottles and a G2 in his car before he left---hint-hint. And I hear ya about getting bored with water or forgetting to drink: try flavored water, sometimes it helps break up the monotony.
