From Egypt to New York

There is a rather large Egyptian contingency in NYC; the majority of the immigrants from Egypt live in a section of Queens County called Astoria and this neighborhood community is often referred to as "Little Egypt."

The NYPD had to shut down a main thoroughfare there tonight as the celebrations have spilled from the apartments, houses, and restaurants directly out onto the street.

Meanwhile, there is a lunatic running around Brooklyn. The NYPD has closed off several streets there in an effort to contain him. So far this day, he has killed his stepfather, ex-girlfriend, ex-girlfriend's mother, and hurt two other people that we're aware of...and it just so happens that my husband was sent from the Bronx, to Manhattan, and then into Brooklyn tonight.

I'll be up waiting...pondering the closing of streets...for a celebration, for containment...for all the reasons...this is New York City...and it all happens here.

  1. I read this post Friday and then read in the paper this weekend that they caught this guy. You and Rocco were in my thoughts all weekend. I hope he is safe.

I just found your blog, and for the last week have been reading every. Single. Word. My husband just entered a police academy and I have been comforted by your journey. It feels so good to know someone out there relates to how I am feeling. You see, I didn't marry a cop either. But how do you tell them no? Keep writing. I keep reading. And THANK YOU--every word you type finds its way into my heart.

Hang in there. As you've been reading...I've been there, and I can totally relate. Stay strong; it gets better. Remember to surround yourself with people who "get it."
    Thanks for the kind words!
