Nothing Poetic Here

It's been a tough week; I've been in pain, he's been in court, I've had to juggle my schedule, figure out how it fits in with his...time to see friends? Perhaps. Down time? Not so much. We have a fun outing scheduled on Thursday, but that doesn't exactly mean time for us. The heat has been stifling in NYC, and I keep telling myself that next week will be better...but right now, while I'm in it, it feels like it's never going to end. I am tired of standing on one leg, sweating profusely outside my favorite salad stop in order to get cell reception, enough to hear his voice for a minute or two, and then try to make an appointment to actually physically see each other when we reside in the same house.
This situation especially thrills me after going on Twitter and seeing all the negative shout-outs to the NYPD. Some moron actually tagged her tweet with #NYPD #PIGS last night...and to her I say: you have no idea.
We're just people trying to keep it all together...just like any other American family. There's an actual person behind that uniform you hate so much. Oh, and by the way...if you need help, please don't call the NYPD. My husband doesn't need to get held over on your job. You don't deserve him.

  1. Many years ago I put together a campaign called Citizens Opposed to Police Services.

It was one of those red circles with a slash through it superimposed over a graphic of a police officer and the words Citizens Opposed to Police Services surrounding it.

The idea was that citizens could put these on their doors and cars and make it clear that they don't like cops. Which is all well and good. The beauty of the system is that if they were ever in need and an officer showed up at their house, the officer would get to say "Sorry ma'am...we were here to apprehend that guy who broke into your house, but I see you are opposed to our services. Let me just gather my gear and drive away. Sorry to bother you."

The husband nixed the idea... said it might make ME laugh, but the department wouldn't be as amused as I was. ;)

    Hang in there.

  2. PS... I can't comment in Chrome. I had to come over to IE to get anything through. :(

  3. I just need to say thank you for this post. Life has been very similar lately for me and my cop and it makes it just the tiniest bit easier knowing I'm not going through it alone.
Also, Meadowlark, I quite like your idea!!

I LOVE IT. I really, truly wish we could bring your idea to market...it would be a great way to make money off of perps!!

And C.J.: You're welcome. I have finally figured out that the mornings that I don't want to write are when I really need to write the most...!!
