I have decided to reach out to the various people who have announced that they intend to run for Mayor of New York City in 2013.
I want to know where they stand when it comes to the NYPD. It's that simple. I want to know which candidates are willing to do a ride-along in NYC's toughest neighborhoods.
I want to know who is not going to talk out of both sides of their face.

I appreciate your blog so much. My husband (cop) and I are wondering if you ever worry about your husband facing ramifications from your posts. We think you're great but he said today, "I would have to take away your computer if you did that!". He works in a much, much smaller department but also in a big city.
ReplyDeleteYour post about the kinda crack head made us laugh. Funny how we end up knowing the life stories of the homeless and hookers in our husband's beats. As we were driving on vacation a car did something wrong in front of us and he said, "that's a great...insert code #....". I instantly thought only cop's wives spend their vacations listening to traffic violations!

ReplyDeleteThen...well...it's a good question really. Do I worry? I guess so...the NYPD has a very far reach, and I get that if they wanted to, they could make his life miserable.
Here's what's interesting: he's already in one of the crappiest precincts in the entire city!

Seriously, though, I am not so naive as to think that they don't know about me. I know for a fact that the NYPD has someone who monitors the Twitter feed, as well as computers that skim for key words and phrases, etc. I'd like to think that because almost everything that I write is Pro-Cop that they see me out there and simply choose to ignore me. Even when I am lambasting public officials, I am generally not saying anything untoward about the NYPD. In my dreams, I have Pat Lynch (NYPD PBA President) shaking my hand at a meeting of some sort and agreeing with me...perhaps I have an overactive imagination. All I know is that I feel the need to advocate for my husband. So many cops feel as if they don't have a voice; especially at the patrol level.
In terms of your second comment: my husband actually pointed out cars with expired inspections one night---one after the next---as we were walking along the road in a quiet beach town. I made him cross the street!!

Thank you for your response. I think you are very positive about the force, while still being honest. When you describe where your husband works, also patrol, it is very similar to mine (outside of la, inner city). There are officers that post so much worse on Facebook (or so I've been told, I don't do Facebook). Thank you, keep up the good and the working on it!
ReplyDeleteI thought the same thing as love2read when I first read your blog. My friend with the bf who just started the Academy contemplated maybe starting a blog about her experience. I told her I had thought about that before... but would probably keep it private :), especially since my boyfriend doesn't like to advertise that he's a cop, lol.
ReplyDeleteThe truth is that most public officials are total wimps and that is what people don't realize. As of today, I have heard a response from ZERO of the individuals in the running to be the next Mayor of the City of New York.
