A Police Officer vs. A Cop

I think there's a perception of what a Police Officer is and does, and what a "real cop" does on a regular basis. I think this exists both within the Precinct as well as in public perception.
Lately, my husband has confided that he no longer feels like a cop.
Sure, he's still a Police Officer...but with the transfer comes a lot less time on the street.
Everybody is essential, I remind him gently.
He knows. He's just settling in.
